The majority of senior leaders at companies just like to hear themselves talk

I’ve had a few frustrating meetings lately involving senior leadership at my job, and it’s become clear to me that many of these “leaders” add next to no real value to their organizations. They are simply overly paid talkers. Most recently, I was in a meeting with several senior leaders intended to review a work product, and they literally talked 95% of the time. They didn’t even listen or ingest the content of the presentation. They were clearly only there to “impart their wisdom” without giving a shit what had actually been done. This is a trend I’m seeing across many senior leaders, especially in large orgs. It’s already a meme that leaders often don’t listen to their people. But, I guess they didn’t get promoted without being borderline sociopaths who talk more than they listen. That’s what passes for “leadership.”
