How to calm yourself and be diplomatic in the office?

It could be someone telling me to pull huge amounts of data (some of which is unnecessary), someone trying to get complex data to solve simple problems, or even just general high expectations of data. I get pissed off a lot from working with people who don't have business experience and think they know data. I also get pissed on little things from colleagues. For example, a higher ranking employee had set a dinner with me one night and I cleared my day, and then he cancelled last minute.

I'm the type of person who makes my anger apparent. I will stop talking to you, talk to you in a stern tone, complain about you, maybe even outburst if it gets to it. But I've been told by family and friends to be diplomatic. My boss is a very diplomatic person, no matter how much he dislikes someone, he will smile at them, never yell, and even make it seem that he is not angry with them.

How can I swallow my pride and be diplomatic?
