Boss told me I am no longer allowed to work overtime due to being a “higher paid employee”, yet they allow fellow coworkers to work as much OT as they want, even tho they make slightly less than I do. Our company is open 6 days a week and we run a short crew on the weekend. I’ve been covering that shift once a month for the last 10+ years without issue, and out of the blue I get told I can’t work that shift due to my hourly rate. The company does not have a policy that prohibits OT due to pay rates, and there have not been any issues with performance or disciplinary problems. (One could argue that the weekends I run are the most efficient/productive). I will be kind of nice not having to work the weekend, it will free my time up to spend with the family and relax, but I can’t help but wonder what the real reason is. I have been with the company for 20 years, and this is a new manager. This puts an added strain on my coworkers, and they are unclear why they have to work harder now and I do not. My question is, could this be considered discrimination? I am the only one prohibited from working overtime, and my hours were minimal (I would get 4.5 hours vs my coworkers 5.5-6.5 hours). Thank you all in advance!
