Today is a Civic Holiday

So where I live (Ontario, Canada) is a civic holiday today. That means it’s not a stat/mandatory holiday, like Christmas or Canada Day. What that means is federal government agencies are all closed, but everything else is basically up to the employer to decide if it’s a holiday for their company. I started at my workplace last September, so past the civic holiday. Every other job I’ve had in even somewhat related work has taken the civic holiday off since it’s inception. So I made an assumption (whoops). Well, my boss text me to ask if I was working today (I work remotely). Apparently, we do not get the civic holiday off. Honestly, it wouldn’t be a big deal, I’m not in trouble per say, but on Friday when I said “I’ll talk to you Tuesday, have a great long weekend!” probably would’ve been a good time for them to…

I guess this is just a rant against my boss not acknowledging my clear indication of what I thought about the holiday, and also our government’s thing of leaving stuff “up to the employer”, instead of standardizing that shit.
