And what did I find? The very first email I read today with my newest at the top sorted emails in my inbox? A manager in my department telling me I should change my out of office message to something “more professional.” I guess saying I contracted the plague and will get back to someone as soon as possible is unprofessional… I was also amused as, again, I’ve had this message up for almost a week.
I’ve worked at this place for over 10 years. Everyone that emails me knows me. This manager also told me how I should include my supervisor’s contact information for anyone needing, “immediate assistance.” My first response to this manager, in my grumpy, sleepy, miserable, state was why on earth would I possibly do that when my manager doesn’t know what I do and I’m sure he would just turn around and text and/or call me like he did every other day I was out and then act like he figured it out all by his wittle self to whomever was inquiring.
I’m sorry to say, I reigned in my lil snark rocket before it left my drafts folder and shifted it more towards professional passive aggressiveness. Not nearly as much fun but, at least I still have a job lol! The day did get better. I had lots of wonderful well wishes and “no rush” from so many of the other wonderful, caring, people I work with… too bad they’re not managers in my department!
