I have been at my company for five years, mostly in the same role. The only compensation that has changed was getting some commission on projects I work on. However, my base salary has not increased in 3 years.
I want to make more money and have more responsibility. So I asked my boss a while back, “What does it take for me to get to the next level?”. My boss responded with “right now, I don’t have anyone to replace you with if you were to get promoted. If you can get your assistant to your level, then we can promote you”.
I have spent the last 6 months since that conversation training my assistant up only to find out today that my boss relocated my assistant to another department.
I asked, “how does this affect my growth plan?”. I basically found out, I’m now supposed to train an intern (who has been here a month) and has no experience. Hence delaying my promotion.
