It amazes me how close-minded some companies are. They are not willing to invest anything to train and educate their employees. Yet these very same companies require someone else to have already done just that. Requiring people have certain relevant “experience” beforehand. As if people are incapable of learning something new.
I am not talking about specialized, technical things like being a doctor. I am talking about things such as specific industries, or verticals. As if never working in the pharma industry means I cannot possibly understand the perceived complexities of the jargon.
Or that knowing how to calculate a metric or KPI is not enough, I need to already know how to calculate yours. How is anyone ever supposed to gain the experience if no one is willing to provide it?
Doug: Has it ever occurred to you that we always sit in these exact same seats? For years now… Why?
Harry: I don't know. They're seats. We have asses. Seems like the logical thing to do.
Doug: I'm talking about us following the same routine, all right, day after day, year after year without even questioning it.
