new job has weirdly strict onboarding process. is this normal?

I’m a recent grad and just accepted a job offer. Right after I accepted, they asked for proof of my education (fair enough) so I sent over my transcripts. After that I had to complete a bunch of onboarding paperwork, complete a drug test, and get a background check (all which took a lot of time). Now they’re asking for pay stubs/W2 forms from my last 3 jobs and my transcripts again which I find really weird since I just don’t see how that’s relevant. I sent it over anyways but I just feel like this is kind of over the top lol. If they wanted that info I feel like they should’ve asked me that at the beginning.
