About 12 months ago I quit my job. I was overworked and underpaid. I was doing the job of three people because all of my co-workers were quitting because of issues with management. I was denied any additional compensation or promotion. I was working nights, not being around my wife and kids because I always had work to do. Management did nothing about harassment or other HR issues. I said enough is enough.
I started looking for a new job and landed a new gig, with better pay, in a better position. I was still hesitant to call a victory because of my previous experience. Yesterday I had my one year review and my supervisor was nothing but kind to me, told me what a great job I was doing, and gave me a 14% raise. He also said he has seen me working and answering emails late at night (hard to break out of the habit) and that he wants me to take more time for myself, and to let him know if there’s anything he can do lessen my load and that I’m not expected to always be “on”. My jaw dropped because I’ve never been treated so nicely at the work place. He is even letting me take Fridays off and will begin letting me work from home.
What is this? Is this the twilight zone? What is happening?
