So I'm a 17 year old male. I've been working for a midwest grocery chain subsidiary for a year and a half. When I was hired, I was promised a raise within a 6 months to a year of working. I got my first raise of .75 cents a couple weeks ago.
With the amount of work i do, covering peoples shifts, coming in to help when there's a worker shortage on some days to help with pallets and shit. I dont mind it too much, I need the money.
But yesterday I was talking with the head of our scheduling department and a service manager and corporate wants us to cut our hours down. By a lot. Almost half. And we are one of the top stores, in the top 5 which is very good for our store size.
They think that because we don't meet sales we need to cut our hours down. But we for sure make good sales. Those corporate assholes just want more money for themselves, because all of our sale smoney goes right up to them and back to us after everything is gone through.
What sucks even more is they've hired 6 more people in the last week at our store. So that makes even less hours for us.
More of a personal thing, I live in a different town from this store and go to school in another town, so gas is a lot for me. I also have football practice starting soon, meaning I won't have a lot of time to work. And I cant be called in anymore or show up to help when asked?
I try to work 20-40 hours a week during summer and now ill probably be working less than 10 for the first semester of school.
Whu the fuck do we need to cut our hours down? So what if you hire more people, schedule them with the normal shifts so you can get your items on the fucking shelf quicker.
