Reading a book will never be allowed

I worked at Dominos several years ago as a delivery driver. When I'm not on deliveries I would sweep, mop, do dishes, fold boxes etc. If all that is finished there was a massive amount of downtime. During the sometimes three or four hour lull I would attempt to read a book. Every time I would get reprimanded if someone noticed me doing it. You could do anything else, play games on your phone, sleep in a chair, smoke weed in the back room, reading was NOT allowed though. I was the only one who tried to read so I guess that is why I was singled out. My manager always said I acted like I was too good for Domino's and gave me guff for going to college. And would ask if I'm going to quit after I graduate, somewhat often. I would respond, that's why I'm going to…

A compromise was made one day. I could read on my phone through the Kindle app, but an actual Kindle was also not allowed and especially not a paper novel.
