I was studying abroad in Europe at the beginning of summer, so I arranged to come back to the restaurant I worked at the last 2 summers for the start of July, way back in May. July came, and my old boss didn't respond to my messages. My 19 year old cousin was working there for the first time this summer, and she just quit 4 days ago because the 65 year old manager would not stop asking her out and calling her hot. He let her quit instead of firing the manager. Sure enough, my old boss texts me last night asking if I'm able to start taking shifts.
By the way, can I just say how annoying it is that he promised me a job and then bailed on me? Had he been honest and said they weren't getting enough business, that would've been fine because I would've had time to arrange another job. But he didn't, and no one wants to hire a college kid during July when they have to leave for school at the end of August. It took me a month to find one business in my area who would hire me. I've only had 2 shifts so far and have to leave for school in 2 weeks with less than $1500 in my bank account (last year I left with over $5000). No shot I'm going to work during school too. My schoolwork would suffer, I don't have a car on campus, and almost every job around there only offers $8-9/hour. So much for having a fun senior year, I guess.
