I am so sick of people who refuse to treat service workers as human.

I work in corporate food service. I love hate my job working in a coffee shop as the assistant manager. However I have noticed an increase in people who refuse to use common decency and courtesy. Is it really that hard to say please or thank you? Or even just hello! I don't need a whole life story but a hi how are you goes a long way. I tell all my baristas and shift leads that we get paid to take orders and make coffee we do not get paid to take abuse. So when someone comes in verbally harasses my baristas and shift leads my boss or I are usually the first to step in and handle the customer. Its not fair that we service workers carry this economy and we are just shat on and kicked around as if we are some NPC in a video game…

I work alone on sundays for like 2 hours until another person shows up and its always the day I get the people who think they can speak to me however they want. Today I had a person come in and I walked over about to say hello and she starts with 'can I get a cappuccino?' I recently started to force people to treat me like a human and I will stop them and go 'hello how are you?' And she just kept demanding a cappuccino so I just went silent the rest of the transaction and made her a large. She didn't say thank you just a very mumbled 'thanks' I would not have heard if I wasn't leaning over the counter to hand her a spoon.

I am done with this crap. A hi or hello is not a hard word to say. Treat your service workers like they are humans not some Skyrim NPC that says the same phrase over and over again and tip your servers!
