Like the rest of the world, I have grown up (in India) envying the US. In TV shows, movies and political discussions, the US has always been depicted as the best country in the world, at least in India. There’s no denying that the US is the biggest superpower and is the leader of the free world. However, some of your policies baffle me.

Why is a living wage for restaurant servers a burden of the customer and not the business owner? Even in a developing country like mine, we tip only when we feel like. Their livelihood is not dependent on our tips. Yet, the US, with the most wealth in the world cannot pay its workers properly?

The fact that being unemployed pushes you towards bankruptcy from medical bills. The bigger problem that your medical insurance is linked to your job, and it costs a shit ton of money to get supplemental insurance. It’s bizzare! How can a dental surgery result in you burning through all of your savings?

Gun lawsssss! (Probably not the write sub for this). The logic is simple. Have stricter gun laws and the school shootings will be lower. Yet, the masses in the US argue viciously for their right to own deathly weapons? To defend yourself? Why do you have a police force then? If you don’t trust them, that’s another reason to introspect.
Since my childhood, I have wanted to always live in the US as it seemed like a magical place where dreams come true. Not so much anymore.
As Tupac said,”They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor. Said it ain't no hope for the youth and the truth is, it ain't no hope for the future.”
