Learned this from my wife:
Add home phone service to your cable bill if you don't already have a home phone number. It's subsidized by some law from 1928 or some such shit, so it will be cheap. Set up voice-mail on said phone line.
Give that number, and ONLY that number, to employers. Do NOT give your cell phone number out.
Then, when you hear the phone ring, it's one of three things:
1) Car warranty
2) Visa/Mastercard/American Express/Discover cards services, because they all outsource to one company in India
3) YOUR JOB
Let it go to voice-mail. Never be immediately reachable. We are both in the medical field and we do NOT give our employers our cell phones.
A lot of issues I see on this sub are because bosses call or text and expect people to be reachable 24/7. You want to reach me 24/7? Then you better be paying me on-call hours and providing me a phone. Unless you are a medical professional or someone who is paid to be on-call, there is no reason why anyone should be expected to call or text with their boss.
Boss bitches? “Sorry, my personal cell phone is not for work related issues. You can reach me at the number provided at hire.”
