Antiwork

I just learned that starting in September, we will not be paid for overtime hours anymore. Fuck this.

I work for a fairly large company with a presence in at least 30 countries. After having a “hard time” during the pandemic (still had money to make lots of acquisitions though, so go figure), it is almost back to pre-pademic level. Said company is also know for relying a lot on overtime, especially in some departments (on of which I work in). Most of my colleagues work 50-60 hours a week (normal work week being 40 hours according to the law). Up until now, we were paid hourly, with any hour after 40 in the same week being paid 1.5 times your salary. I'd prefer working less, but at least it wasn't bad money. But now, they decided that we will be salaried employees instead, which mean that we will keep the same base salary (what we would have made if we work 40h/week all year long), but are…

But now, they decided that we will be salaried employees instead, which mean that we will keep the same base salary (what we would have made if we work 40h/week all year long), but are expected to produce the same results. We will still have to work overtime if necessary to finish projects on time, but it will not be paid. We might (or might not) be eligible for a bonus at the end of the year, but no one can guess how much that would be.

For most of us, it means that our pay will be 20-40% lower.

Oh, and to make it worst, I've never seen a project end on time here, so I'm not even sure how the will manage that.

So yeah, I'm looking for a new job, and can't wait to see how many will quit.

Did I mention that this company already have a hard time recruiting and keeping employees? I'm not sure how they think that will help…
