Hi i'm a new hire at retail store, need you guys' advice on how to deal with this situation.
I started few weeks ago but I only come in to work twice a week.
I currently work in the back of retail store going through boxes. I'm still learning and I just started to do this work (less than a week working in the back). Past few weeks, I worked on the floor zoning and doing other stuffs.
My team lead called me into office yesterday with another team lead in the office. he is claiming that I “threw” boxes and she thought I was upset. Also he says there's expectation but this conversation is not about poor performance. He just wanted to check in according to him.
I honestly didn't know what he meant, cause some boxes are very heavy and sometimes I can't deliverately place the boxes. But I never throw to the wall or anything. I just place it on top of other boxes without bending my back all the way.. also items in the boxes are not fragile. It's soft pillows and stuffs. So I apologized and told her I was surprised that he thinks I look upset or I'm doing it wrong. Maybe it's because I wear mask?
Anyways i apologized to him but he is still going to talk to manager and change my work stream. I'm confused because he never pointed out not to put boxes like that. If she gave me a warning or guidance then I would have fixed it but I never was given guidance. Also other people do this too.
Given the fact I only worked in the back few days and I'm still training, also he didn't point out anything on the spot, not sure if this is fair treatment.
I'm the only different racial group among the team, I feel super uncomfortable.. š
