I quit my cafe job in April for a few reasons, and while I’d never had issues finding a job, I’d also never applied outside of hospo. I fucking hate hospo. The managers are always assholes, everyone stresses everyone out and it’s honestly disgusting to deal with old food and grotty leftovers from kids.
I’m a drop out, yes, but I’m working towards uni and I’m still young. I’m not going for jobs that need experience, let alone a bachelors. I work for 16 year old rates and can work five days a week. I have been applying to two or three jobs a week for months, targeting jobs as a retail assistant and animal attendant (for which I am fully certified), to not even get a single rejection letter.
But as soon as I give in after months of unemployment and apply at a cafe I get a reply within two days. All Im asking for is a minimum wage job that isn’t in hospitality! Guys I’m cheap labor over here snatch me up so I don’t have to wash dishes and get yelled at for have an actual panic attack.
