I’m a salaried employee and my boss is trying to require me to clock in/out

I work as a product designer at a design firm. I have been at my job as a part time employee for about 3 months, and I recently went full time (still undergoing the transition process). When I was part-time/hourly, I was clocking in/out every day, but when I transitioned to full time I became a salaried employee and agreed on a salary with my boss (who is also the CEO of the company). Now, as a full time salaried employee working 40+ hours per week, head of payroll just let me know that I am still required to clock in and out every day. I spoke to the other employees about this, and they said that if I work less than 40 hours in any given week based on how I'm clocking in/out, my boss won't take it out of my paycheck, but instead will deduct those hours from…

This doesn't seem legal to me, as I am an exempt employee (salaried). Is there anything I can do?
