Being asked to stay late if you get a phone call near closing time? Uk

I work in a call centre, I was on the late shift today which means I stay to 6pm and we close at 6. At 5:58 I had someone from another department try to pass a call through to me for a new quote, these take minimum 20 to 40 minutes, and I had dinner out at 6:30, so I said sorry but I can not take the call, and they passed it to someone else who stayed late, but who was also meant to finish at 6. I know I am going to get in Shit for this tomorrow, but they do not pay us any over time, so if I stayed to 6:30 despite are company closing at 6 i would have not been paid anything, but I have been told we have to stay late if we get a call close to when we finish. I offered to call the guy back first thing tomorrow morning, I am early to ever shift by 15 minutes, but they said they kept missing the guys calls so had to get it sorted now, so someone else took the call who also should have finished at 6 and I felt bad.

What do I do? When I know they will have a go at me tomorrow for it.

It sucks, no one should be expect to stay late without them paying us for it, we should just be able to say, sorry sir but a quote would take over 20 minutes and we close in two minutes, So we can give you a call back tomorrow during business hours or arrange an alternative time.
