Had allergic reaction, job won’t let me come back to work

Posting on behalf of my partner. My partner accidentally ate something that caused an allergic reaction while working (delivery driving) and needed to go home so as to monitor the reaction and make sure it didn’t turn deadly. After much puking, rehydrating, and hives, they are fine, but would have needed to go to the hospital due to dehydration if they stayed on the job. Their boss took them off the schedule and told them that they could not come back to work until they have a doctor’s note clearing them for work. They already told their boss they can’t afford to go to the doctor right now and just needed the rest of the day off to recover. Now they are being forced to either go to a doctor, which they can’t afford, or not have a job. Any suggestions as how to handle this? Yes, my partner is…
