I work in retail as your typical cashier, I was scheduled to work today, but found out my dog had a sudden severe decline and needed to be put down. My job expected me to come in and miss out on saying goodbye to him. My managers reason? It's too short of notice. That manager also brags regularly about us being fully staffed, yet somehow not a single damn one of my coworkers could cover me. I just told my managers to figure it out or consider it my notice.
I know it was the right thing to do, but I'll be damned if it doesn't hurt to leave coworkers I genuinely enjoy working with, and for decent pay. Fuck anyone who thinks this is normal and acceptable for people to go through.
