“Work approved my leave then took it away days before my trip”

Posting for a friend who doesn’t have a Reddit account “I entered a job with a trip approved and it was lost in communication between the recruiter and my supervisors. After clarification in writing, my time off was approved in our system 5 months ago. Yesterday, I was told that I can’t have any time off because we are short staffed they need me. “I entered a job with a trip approved and it was lost in communication between the recruiter and my supervisors. After clarification in writing, my time off was approved in our system 5 months ago. Yesterday, I was told that I can’t have any time off because we are short staffed they need me. (They approved too many people’s leave and randomly selected two to stay). My trip is paid for and I’m 100% going due to the fact that it has been approved for months. I politely told them that this will cause more issues on both ends but I’d love to work something out to help where I can outside of my time off. I was called selfish and not a team player and respectfully told them that I will have to quit then if they can’t honor the previous conversations as my trip is $8k, but again would love to work something out. They refused and said it’s not professional to quit a job when you don’t get your way and this is the problem with workers today.

I have taken no time off, never been late, and never missed a deadline. I’m a great employee. Anyways, they will be getting my resignation letter effective immediately right as I’m going to be boarding a plane tomorrow.

(I’m in America where apparently using leave is forbidden)”
End transcript from friend.

Anyone ever had a situation like this before? Sounds like he would get fired anyways but sounds like management is in the wrong knowing for the last 5 months that he would be out.
