Felt it was time for a raise with everything Ive been doing in my role as well as what I needed personally. Did some research into the best way to go about it given the home office is London based and Im in the US. Typed up a professional email devoid of emotion focused on just what Ive accomplished and what additional functions ive taken on as well as what I was requesting, a certain % raise. Scheduled the email to hit the CEOs email, its a small company am I regularly correspond with the CEO, Monday at 8am London time and waited for a response.
Its now Wednesday and I have heard nothing officially, not even a “request received, we will connect soon to discuss” reply. I say Ive heard nothing “officially” because the store “manager”, the guy that does nothing for me but make the schedule, filled me in that theyre upset how I sent it and not with its contents.
There are only two people in the hierarchy between me and the CEO. The aforementioned “manager” and the retail director, also London based. I figured the CEO makes the final decision anyways so why not go straight to the source for the raise. Plus we email regularly so no biggie right? And I honestly do not trust that the “manager” would deliver my request to the appropriate person.
So as of midday Wednesday all I know is what Ive heard from the manager, which is very little. That is, that the raise request email has upset people because it went throught the wrong channels and that now is not a “convienient time.” No mention of the actual content of the sent email.
The way I see it a simple email response along the lines of “Hey, these types of requests should really go through **** first in the future. Will connect soon” would have been profession and appropriate. Instead I get treated to unprofessionalism. Granted I still may get a response in the coming hours or days, but as it currently stands Im not impressed or pleased.
Sorry for the kind of long post. Kind of just venting. Stay vigiliant for red flags in the workplace.
