Anyone ever use another phone than the one they applied with to fake a reference?

I have to give references to a job I applied to and I'm thinking about getting a disposable phone to fake my ex-boss's number since he was a dickhead. Has anyone faked a reference before? Was it successful? Did they actually call the number? What did they ask and what did you say when you picked up? Thank you,
