Quitting jobs without notice or sufficient notice & impact on future employment

I’ve frequently seen advice or stories on Reddit, either this sub or others, about quitting on the spot or without the courtesy 2 week notice. That got me thinking. I never did that out of fear of ruining future opportunities and burning bridges. I always gave 2 week notice to all employers, even ones I hated. I work in government now and all my positions required extensive background investigations that specifically asked employers how I quit. I don’t know what woulda happened if one said “she just didn’t show up one day” or “she threw a fit and left”. So, my question is, how do y’all deal with potential consequences of leaving an employer like that? I understand that not all new jobs check previous employers but I would still feel crazy anxious about it blowing in my face at one point and taking a job opportunity from me.
