I’ve been with the company I work for for 16 years. It’s a dog daycare and kennel. I started at the bottom and I worked my way all the way up to operations manager. For a long time there were 3 operations managers total, including me. January 1st, one resigned leaving just me and one other manager (who happens to be married to the owner of the company). I did not get a raise when the manager resigned, but I did get a lot of extra responsibility.
So typically me and the other manager alternate days, who is the primary manager of the day, who the staff contacts if they need anything. This was so one persons phone was not being bombarded more than the other, I am the more approachable manager. I am also 20 weeks pregnant, I may have some complications going on that I will have a lot of upcoming appointments for. I will be going on leave in July. Anyways, yesterday was technically ‘my day’ as primary manager. I had an appointment that I had to leave early for. There was a dog that got sick and had to be transported to the vet and an employee went home sick so the other manager had to stay to cover even though it was technically supposed to be my day to cover things.
Today I come in and I am told that alternating days will no longer be an option, and We need to ‘make myself available’ everyday. There will no longer be a ‘primary manager’ labeled each day. No discussion. I stated why that is not ideal.the other manager and I argued.
Little do they know I’m planning to leave as soon as I have my credit cards paid off. I’m having a baby and they’re telling me I need to ‘be available’ every day? Screw that.
