My experience with the modern workplace.

Ladies and gentlemen, an example of how the modern workplace has become inhospitable to the productive. There are no incentives for working hard anymore, even in reasonably high positions and places. Ladies and gentlemen, an example of how the modern workplace has become inhospitable to the productive.

There are no incentives for working hard anymore, even in reasonably high positions and places. I haven’t received a raise or promotion anywhere I’ve worked since my first job, which was when I went from cashier to maintenance at McDonald’s. (This was approximately 7 years ago.)

Intelligence, ethic, ambition, all are meaningless in this land of endless labor masquerading as opportunity. It has nothing to do with a persons talents or their character, it’s only about keeping a lower class in line.

When I first go to a new job, I work hard for about a month as a test to determine if I will be recognized for my efforts. Then, as I am neither compensated nor elevated, I slowly reduce my efficacy. I ultimately perform with calculated mediocrity. Why would I bust my ass when I can do less than half the work for the same pay and recognition?

In seven years of working all manner of position, retail, warehouse, managerial, food service, and more, I’ve had to jump between jobs for a raise of any kind. Additionally, even with solid credentials (telecommunications, logistics, managerial) half of the jobs I apply for which advertise those skills as being necessary turn out to be deceitful in nature. So I hop again whence I find something more appealing.

In complete honesty, I am sickened by this. I don’t need my workplace to be “perfect” but I expect a modicum of decency. Then of course, when I ask for a raise the company has the sheer audacity to declare that they simply lack the funds.

Then fuck off and go bankrupt already. I have no loyalty to that which has none to me.
