My Boss is nervous I’m leaving. He should be.

Need some advice yall. So I’ve been working at the same place for the last 13 years. I Like my boss, enjoy the technology and I’ve grown a lot as a professional and am in a good position with a nice job title and decent salary. Or so I thought…. Turns out one of my coworkers that quit a month ago shared he was making $25k more than me. This is a guy I had trained when he was hired last year. I was floored as I have a decade more of experience in this field and am a “go to guy”at my job. I used to have a coworker that did the same job as I and we split the workload. I’ve had professional polite discussions TWICE with my employer that I NEED MORE MONEY. Both times he slithered out by trying to explain that my “overall package”(insurance, 401k etc) was comparable to my old coworkers $100k base salary. Then vague promises of a raise in the future.

I’m comfortable, I can do my job easily but I’m 41 and don’t want to pigeon hole myself in my small company.
I got a new job offer coming next week with nearly double the income, huge runway to grow with company and respectable job title and authority.

As a 1980 baby, I got some slacker Gen X in me that wants to chill and coast….but I also want to grow and be a well adjusted adult with a big income and responsibility.

What do you say Reddit?

Take the new job?
Or
Stay at old job and chill?

Thx in advance!
