I applied for a job I know I am very much qualified for. The company listed the job on their own website just a couple of days before I had applied. It’s been about three weeks. This is in a tech industry that is also common for people to freelance full time as a technician. The position I had applied for was more on the sales / administrative side which is more enticing to me because it gets me out of freelancing which I don’t want to do anymore. The very next day I get a call from the company wanting to know if I can cover a couple of days as a freelancing technician. I do the job because I figured it was an easy in to get my foot in the door. The job gets done, a week goes by and they call me back again as a freelance tech. I wasn’t available this time but I did ask them who I can follow up with about my application. The secretary coordinating the labor told me she was going to figure out who was in charge of hiring that position and get back with me. She failed to do so, however a week later she emails me again asking to freelance. I accept the job because I’m still trying to remain in their good graces but I asked them again about that position and my application status To which her reply was “Sorry for not getting back with you. We are currently not hiring but are always looking. HR will reach out to you if a position opens up.” Now, my résumé is stacked with experience applicable to this job. I’m hard-pressed to think I wasn’t at least qualified enough for an interview. The position is still on their site. They are still calling me to freelance. Are they lying to me somewhere along the way? I just don’t know how to handle this. The job has been posted on multiple online job boards, and within a few weeks from today. Is there something shady going on here?
