I am an employee paid for contract hours only. I was just informed that a required four days of training is unpaid.

I’m wondering how they get away with this. We were required to attend this eight hour training for four days straight but I was just informed we aren’t being paid. I am a contract employee paid specifically for hours in the context of a specific assignment. Can they do this? I was literally engaged in required work activity that I’m still getting hounding emails about not finishing some part of. I am just baffled. They literally stole nearly a week of my time for work and aren’t going to pay. I am not a salaried employee. I’m paid a flat rate based on contract hours in a specific assignment. Idk what to even think about this.
