Has anyone looked back on a former job and realized how messed up it was?

I was just thinking about this job I used to have, and how incredibly fucked up everything about it was but I was too young and dumb to know any better. I was hired as a receptionist, but they hired me as a 1099 employee. I didn’t know much about 1099’s at the time and they gave me some lame explanation as to why I was being hired that way. I later found out they hire every single new employee as a 1099 worker and will keep them on that way for at least 3 months. Nobody there fell under the description of a 1099 worker. My scope of work, my hours, my break time – everything was dictated to me by my boss. The CEO of the company was a mansplaining a-hole. He was writing a book at the time and he assigned chapters to every employee and on our own time we had to edit, provide feedback, and give notes on our assigned chapters. We then take time out of our work day to go over our notes with him in a group meeting.
If we were a minute late to work, he would “fine” us but told us the funds would go into a pool of money for a party or lunch. Never saw the fruits of that.
During times when there was inclement weather in the forecast (like blizzard conditions) he would email the entire company the day before telling us that he expected everyone to be at work (mind you he lived across the street from the office building so he never had to worry about commuting).
He commented on my weight multiple times, and one time in a meeting a female coworker had her scarf kind of wrapped around her head bc she was freezing and he made a comment in front of everyone to the tune of “Now that is how all woman should dress.”
I am so glad I got out of that toxic place.
