Quiet quitting has to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard, which I know we can all agree on. However, being in a union makes the whole ideal to me even extra stupid. Per my union regulations when I am hired to do a job, I can only do THAT job. It's for two main reasons:
-
To avoid burn out. My industry is intense, 12+ hour days, 6 days a week type of intense. The union does what it can to keep us from going too crazy.
-
If I do the job of 2 people then I am basically taking away work from someone else. Someone didn't get hired and missed out on paid work because I am doing their job and that's a HUGE no no.
So, the concept of someone being a bad employee because they only do the job, they were hired to do just…blows my mind! All that says to me is companies want to dump the job of three people on one person and are doing everything they can to gaslight people into believe that's a good thing. “Oh you're such a good employee that's why we give you so much responsibility” “Not going the extra mile means you're lazy or entitled.” Its toxic and honestly corrupt. This way they get away with paying one salary in a place that should be 3 people's salaries.
Don't let them get away with it. Push back, define your role, don't step out of your box. Force these bloated companies to pay for the work they want!
“Quiet quitting” fuck right off.
