Accused of dealing – quit on the spot

So I'm a PT and competitive bodybuilder. I was working for a fairly large gym chain in the UK who takes 12 hours a week and doesn't pay you in exchange for gym floor rent regardless of how many clients you have. All of mine are online so I've been working for free, essentially. My manager has been weird with me since I asked about career opportunities knowing that the assistant manager position was coming up soon but nothing was said of it. The current AGM handed their notice in last week so naturally I applied. Quite conveniently, today I was called into a meeting with no context to find the regional manager. They said that was the purpose of the meeting, to allow me to explain my side, but then went on a 20 minute lecture how it would be bad for business, they couldn't now consider my AGM application, blah blah blah.
This has never been raised before – it didn't occur to me but my roommate suggested it's possibly internal sabotage as there's word of the GM being promoted to RGM and they themself said I am far more qualified than they are

To top it off I'm in my final month of prep for a contest, so I went out to the car park and resigned immediately.

Fingers crossed the online training picks up and I can go completely independent 🤷‍️
