Well title says it all… my old client that I freelanced video work through for 5-6 years tried to bullshit me and steal my work… I hired an ip attorney and I can now put him out of business if I choose to… the clients he was worried about could have continued to hire us thru him, had he signed the documents we requested instead of trying to steal our files…
But instead, he tried to lie, and cheat me out of my portfolio. Only thing he has now is a tax bill for all my independent contract work since he admitted he misclassified me, but without the benefit of owning any of the ip. Because in the US, you can’t go back to take advantage of laws by skirting around those laws in the first place.
Basically the law says you can’t benefit off something after the fact, so now that client has no choice but to come with me since I have all their footage… or pull a million dollar ad campaign they’ve been running the last 3-4 years…
