So I started at my company (low man on the totem pole) a couple of months ago. My boss insisted that everyone teach me how to do things so that, basically, I’ll know how to do everyone’s job if they aren’t there.
Some background: before I got hired, I told them I would need three days before my wedding and the week after for honeymoon-they said not a problem.
Anyways, I got pregnant shortly after our honeymoon. I was trained on the basics of my job for a month before honeymoon. When I came back, a new girl was there. And I was informed that I was to train her, because “you’re more patient”. Okay I guess? But once they found out I was pregnant, boss went around telling everyone to teach the new girl instead of me. I let that one slide. I get it, I’d be gone for a while on leave so she would need to know too.
I was really really sick the beginning of my pregnancy. Couldn’t get off the bathroom floor sick. I called in, honestly, a decent amount. A total of 8 days over 2 months. Now before I get attacked, I know any job would be angry about that. I got told we need to have a meeting, which I understood. I am okay with getting talked to about absences as it is a crucial part of a job is of course showing up. I did have doctor’s notes explaining my absences, and was using pto for those days.
Boss comes in and starts telling me “we both know you weren’t as sick as you let on” and that “you took those days before your wedding too”. He knew about those days before wedding. I just looked at him and said “I don’t understand? I was pretty sick. I gave my doctors note.” He rolled his eyes and continued to tell me “I’m not a good ole boy and have no personal feelings towards you. If you miss again we will have to cut you down to part time” I agreed and we were both pretty pissy at the end.
I asked to talk to him at the end of the day. I told him I didn’t like how the last meeting ended and wanted to end on a better note. I asked him about the part time comment and he put his finger in my face and said “I never said that and I’ll tell everyone in here I didn’t say that.” I assume because I would lose benefits and he didn’t want it going around he cut out a pregnant woman’s benefits. He then told me “I don’t see how you afford to live with you missing work” needless to say, with pregnancy hormones, I bawled in the car on the way home. I obviously can’t prove he said any of this. I talked to HR and they said “that’s just how he is, he yells at me all the time”. I feel like I can’t get help from anyone. Boss is 71. Can’t he just retire
