This year I celebrated my 30th anniversary with the same company – which seems rather rare these days, but especially in my industry. Fir context, the company is one of the largest in the state and was relatively unimpacted by the pandemic.
Historically, my company would host a nice dinner and hand out physical bonus checks to those celebrating a significant work anniversary. For example a 30-year honoree would get a bonus of $2,000.
However, this year they decided to change things up and I received a $500 e-card that I could spend at any number of bland online companies and not redeemable for cash. You can request a physical card but it takes 8-10 weeks to arrive and I never received mine.
There was apparently backlash on the gift cards so the decided to give us a celebratory dinner. The location for this dinner, you might ask? At a local family-friendly game center (think Chuck-E-Cheese). No, we are not allowed to bring our kids and the center itself is not reserved for this event. I think I'm going to pass…
