So for a little background, I’m a supervisor/manager at a very large package handling company. My coworker goes on vacation but constantly texts for updates on how we are doing and if we are hitting our production numbers. My job is to manage a certain sect of our employees (call outs, optional days, manage timecards etc.) I gave my coworker all my employees phone numbers and said that they need to take care of it while I am gone because I will not be using my phone. Coworker gets indignant, “why can’t you just handle the call outs and text me who is off and such”. I’m not going to work on my vacation, especially one where I’m trying to disconnect from that life. I don’t understand why so many people think that on your vacation, the 3-4 times a year where you don’t have to think about work, they still want you to be working.
Ps: I’m working 6 days this week instead of 5 and covering their position in addition to my own while he’s on vacation.
