Massive American auto insurer GEICO has started sending union-busting companywide emails. It is only a matter of time before anti-union meetings are held and anti-union reps are pressuring employees.

Since the pandemic, GEICO has been executing clandestine layoffs and slashing benefits including disability leave, parental bonding leave, and retirement contributions. Wages have stalled in the face of inflation, with a huge segment of employees receiving no raise at all. More issues are laid out on the union website below.

GEICO’s Buffalo office, AKA Region 8, has 3,000 employees and has begun organizing a union. Shortly after efforts gained attention on the subreddit, GEICO sent their first union-busting email.

Especially with the context of John Oliver’s breakdown above, the language in these emails is clear. GEICO has only just begun their unethical anti-union activity.

The GEICO union website is www.GEICOUnited.org. It is the best place for more information. The organizers have put together an amazing FAQ. This is not some kind of promotion attempt, and I am not a union organizer (though I am definitely a supporter). Any questions can simply be best-answered by the site or reaching out via the site.

We are not going to let GEICO win, and having their tactics made public in forums like these can help those efforts. Thank you to those who read this and support worker’s rights!
