Crumbling workforce after returning from parental leave

I just had my first week of work after basically a year off from parental leave. All of my old colleagues asked why I returned, and informed me they were either quitting or what their exit plan was. Two of them had handed in their notices by Friday. I am considering quitting as well, but I asked for a raise. If I get my wage boosted to $20/hour (slightly higher than the going rate for local childcare) I'll consider staying otherwise I think I'll jump ship too. Maybe try to become a butcher or something.
