She said that the front desk told them nobody has applied for the position. My mom doesn’t understand why and thinks the service industry has gone to crap lately.
I asked her if she asked the hotel how much they were paying for the bellhop job. She didn’t.
She said that it must pay a livable wage and assumed that it must be a union position (I didn’t ask if she asked the front desk if it was, but I think it’s safe to assume she didn’t). I… couldn’t even respond.
I guess she doesn’t know only about 11% of workers are unionized and that percent has been decreasing annually .
We didn’t continue the conversation much because I just don’t know how to respond to people in these situations and just stopped talking.
So now I’m just here ranting about it on Reddit instead… I’m just tired of people not understanding the reality of the modern worker and not being able to get people to understand.
