To start out with: I am a college student. I am currently the only inheritor of a fairly large amount of money from my father PROVIDED that I stay in college, have a job, generally make some attempt to not be a complete leach on society and my parents. I am grateful for this because if some sort of productivity were not required of me to keep that money I would be a drug addict. The desire to keep this job has slowed down my drug and alcohol use immensly and I am now able to feel like a functional person. My father has told me explicitly he would prefer I quit my job over dropping out of college. Any employer that thinks they can bully me into dropping out of college and losing more money than they pay me in an entire year is out of their fucking mind.
That being said, current employer has known that I am in college since I was hired 3 months ago. I gave both of my managers my schedule at the beginning of august. I gave one a message over the weekend about it (We can only see our schedule a certain number of days ahead and this is when I looked and found out they still had me scheduled during classes) (admittedly forgot the second one) and made a phone call AND a message to the other manager on monday. Over the phone I was told they would take a look at my schedule and reschedule me. Next morning and no changes. It could just be a case of exceptionally bad communication which my company is somewhat known for, but I'm pretty sure I no longer have a job.
I'm lucky. I have that large inheritence to fall back on and a father who wants me to go to college > but if I didn't have either of those things I would absolutely have to drop out of college and would be barely able to pay my current rent.
Anybody else been “Silently fired”? I feel like the goal is to just continue to schedule me for shifts I simply cannot do without skipping classes, force me to get a bunch of no call no shows or absences, and fire me for that. I refuse to skip classes for work because I am trying to somewhat “redeem” myself due to the fact that I nearly failed last semester due to excessive consumption of drugs and alcohol.
