Bereavement Leave is a joke

My uncle passed away suddenly last week. He and I were extremely close and it’s hitting me hard. I left Thursday after my dad called and I already had Friday off. I texted my boss Sunday and said I would like to take Monday and Tuesday as bereavement. I’m sure she was annoyed because I texted her on the weekend, but I wanted to let her know ahead of time. Anyway, according to our bereavement policy, I don’t get any time off for the passing of an uncle. My boss said if they did it for me, they would have to do it for everyone. So do it! No one gets to tell you how much time you need to grieve. It makes it worse that I work for a church so you would think they would understand a bit more. I looked at our bereavement policy and it’s a joke. No time off for cousins, nieces, nephews, or in-laws. And for everyone else, it’s THREE days. I still took Monday and Tuesday off unpaid as I’ve used up my vacation and personal days because I needed it. I was going to take the rest of the week off, but apparently we have a big visit Wednesday and Thursday. I’ve been trying to quit for awhile, but I need the health insurance so I need to wait until I have another job. I’m just getting so sick of all the bullshit there.
