I got an offer for a better job with more hours, better pay, full benefits, and higher ceiling. On 8/19, I painfully told my boss that my last day would be 8/30. I loved the restaurant and it rekindled my passion for food/beverage service. Thought we were cool. We talked and commiserated about the decline of the service industry, and she seemed sincere in wishing me well.
However, at 12:45am this morning (8/23), I was told that I needn’t come in for the remainder of my notice, six work days.
I have a family, mortgage, and bills. I did the “right thing” and still got the shaft. We scheduled child care around my starting date, and now we’re on the hook for care that is not needed.
