Using a throwaway because my main can easily be traced back to me. I work for a company that offers unlimited PTO and I have a manager who actually lets us use it. The idea behind the unlimited PTO is that life happens and we never know when we'll need time off. Well at a company gathering someone mentioned that they would love to have a 4 day work week to help them get more personal stuff done.
Apparently the owner of the company overheard them say that and sent out a message the following week. It was a short message about how they have heard talkings of a 4 day work week and the benefits it brings. They said that our company is at a time when our culture will not allow a 4 day work week and we need to “do more with less”. The problem with that statement is that it came out that we are not getting raises or cost of living adjustments. This is after the fact the company made a big deal about giving out raises and then kept kicking the can until they said “we dont have the money”.
We got both messages about a week apart. It was at that time I decided that I was going to use my unlimited PTO to take as many 3 day and 4 day weekends as I possibly could. That was earlier this year, I wanna say early February or March. Since then I have taken at least 18 extended weekends and I am currently enjoying a 4 day weekend right now.
I think the owner is right, I have been doing more with less.
