I work for a relatively small firm – less than 30 people.
We recently lost an employee, and he was frustrated. Before he left, he was doing a lot of venting.
I am a remote worker, and I am well-liked and do a great job. Above and beyond..that kind of thing.
So in this guy's ranting, he mentions that the office is going to get rid of all remote workers and bring all positions into the office – 1500 miles away from where I live. (and I don't get paid enough to relocate)
He was like, “They don't know what they want. Last month they said we were going to get rid of all the remote workers, but this month, they want to hire more!”
I had no idea, so all that month, I thought I had a future at this place, and that they liked me so much that I had a job as long as I wanted it, but the whole time, they were talking about getting rid of me.
Folks, that is why you have to do what is best for you. Because the company is always going to do what is best for them – no matter how much they like you.
