I broke a door handle on a push to open door and my manager just called saying they will be taking 600 out of my checks to pay for it, is that allowed?

Happened a few months ago. Boss just call me to say a tech that came to fix another machine at the shop said it will be 600 to fix the door which they will be doing abs that they will take it out of my next few checks.
