VENT: got fired out of nowhere today

not sure if this goes against the rules, as it's sort of a rant, but i'll try anyway. so i'm a (20F) college student who was employed for PART TIME work at a retail store. i told them my school schedule ahead of time and the days i'd be able to work once school is back in session. they said okay (all the days i'm available to work are their busiest days. this is important). i asked for 1 day off in the beginning of september to move into my new apartment as my lease ends the end of august and i need to be out shortly after. i was told that since the store is getting renovated and “i have this week off” (unwillingly… the store is literally closed) that i cannot take any more days off and if i wanted to request, it'd have to go through the…

so i'm a (20F) college student who was employed for PART TIME work at a retail store. i told them my school schedule ahead of time and the days i'd be able to work once school is back in session. they said okay (all the days i'm available to work are their busiest days. this is important).

i asked for 1 day off in the beginning of september to move into my new apartment as my lease ends the end of august and i need to be out shortly after. i was told that since the store is getting renovated and “i have this week off” (unwillingly… the store is literally closed) that i cannot take any more days off and if i wanted to request, it'd have to go through the regional manager.

so i asked the regional manager and i was met with a zoom meeting link / setup time for a date i'm available to discuss. i didn't think too much about it, but what can't be said over an email about a requested day off that needs to be said on a meeting call?

well, i get on the call and i'm fired. for “availability” and “school scheduling” and “not being available for the business' busiest days” reasons. seriously. even though i told them my school schedule, i am PART time, and yet have been scheduled and push to work as full time and a commissioned employee. AND i'm available to work the entire weekend and then some. i generate more than half of the sales with 0% commission as it goes to my coworkers but that's besides the point.

the final advice they had for me for future jobs was “be way more flexible. and “be willing to work on every holiday because i haven't gone home or spent a holiday with my family in 9 years since i started retail” and “be willing to work everyday” basically don't have a life or set plans or take time for yourself.

i am severely mentally ill so that comes before anything, academics come next and then after a couple more things down the list, comes my part time minimum wage job where my successes and extreme hard work has not once been seen. i busted my balls from the start to the end just to be fired for a BS reason.
