I work in Union Tech Job in the midwest…I am a civil servant….the way we get promotions is by taking exams and being picked off the list of people with the best scores. I took a few exams and another “company” so to speak showed interest in picking me off of my exam list (SENIOR ENGINEER LEVEL 3!)…well my current “company” has the opportunity (and almost always does so) to match that offer. Well, my company and my LOVELY (/S) management DID decide to offer me the position…..at a LEVEL FUCKING 1!!! Needless to say, I was PISSED! Now I have been leading my team for years and I am grossly underpaid. The difference was $20K! I deserved it, goddammit! So I sent it back and wrote an email basically saying I deserved the level 3, blah, blah, blah. They take the week and finally got back to me saying they would offer me the level 3 afterall. OK, great…I still make about $10K less than others that are less experienced and total shit at their job, but I will take it.
Soooooo, here we are at my dilemma. I know this management well…they always bitch when people are not “appreciative” or if they don't send a “Thank You” email….Why should I go above and beyond to say thank you for them finally paying me a decent wage??? but I am still on several lists and I am open to getting several more “Pick Ups” which means going through this same process again and again. Should I send a thank you email to keep things smooth? What are your thoughts? What should it say?
