Worked 36 hours the previous 4 days. Boss has been previously getting on me about tardiness, but fuck him because I am the only other degreed engineer here and as a result of our other only degreed engineer leaving, I get stuck with more work to compensate the demand. Boss even sat me down and gave me a slip that says in the even that I am late (past 8 AM), I will be sent home for the remainder of the day without pay. I am hourly, not a problem. I say okay and move on with my life.
We have meetings on Fridays @ 8:45 AM. Arrive at work today @ 8:35 AM, slept in a little bit since I have been traveling to work sites the last 4 days, and I am a type of person where if I need to stay late in the day and get things done it's not an issue. Still on time for our meeting mind you. I walk into our meeting, and the first thing he asks me is “what time did you arrive today?”
Me: “It was 8:35, I've put 36 hours in the last few days and wanted a few extra minutes this morning.”
Boss: “Didn't we talk about this?”
Me: “Yes, but I will stay late as needed as I always do and have lots of work to get done.”
Boss: “Uh-huh. I hate having this conversation.”
Alright. So you didn't send me home because you physically can't afford to. We can't find workers because nobody wants to work for a company that has been hacked in the last year and doesn't believe in Covid (boss is strictly anti-vax), and you only have one degreed engineer at your disposal in the office. This is also before my coworker (boss's borther) made a comment about how he has not used hotel loyalty points because he saw on their website that they support “the LGBT.” I'm not a part of the LGBTQ community, but fuck that is offensive.
The company also got a new Jeep truck last year as a result of PPE loans, but we can't be assed to have decent benefits, healthcare, or working hours. One of my coworkers isn't in today because his truck broke down, and I'm honestly fucking sick of having to get to the point where I physically break down or have a freak out and can't come in. I'm trying to prevent going bald by 30 like these fucks. Fuck working for these asshats. The gov't showed they care more about them than they do the backbones of this country, the workers. I'll be planning my resignation in a month at this point. I have lost all care for a profession which is supposed to be a passion.
